Manage by Design
Please reserve the early evening of December 4, 2008, for an exciting event
at the Peter B. Lewis (Case Western Reserve University) Building in Cleveland.
We have booked some exceptional speakers, who will talk about "Manage
by Design". The event will feature Chris
Riker of Nottingham Spirk (www.ns-design.com)
and Professor Fred Collopy
of the Weatherhead School of Management.
Fred Collopy is Professor and Chair of the Information Systems Department
in the Weatherhead School of Management, and Professor of Cognitive Science
at Case Western Reserve University. Prof Collopy completed his PhD in Decision
Sciences at the Wharton School. In addition to almost three decades in
research and teaching he has been involved in several start-ups and has
worked at and consulted with companies as large as IBM, KeyBank, and Prince
Sports.
Prof Collopy's experiences in software
design and management practice led him to wonder what great designers have
to teach great managers about dealing with complex and open-ended situations.
One of the books Prof Collopy published is titled "Managing as Designing"
(published by Stanford University Press).
Christopher Riker has 18+ years experience with Nottingham-Spirk Design
and has worked on projects as diverse as children's toys to industrial
controls and measurement devices. Chris is currently a Project Director
with Product Innovation Team, and also coordinates the firm's Innovation
and Development Workshops. Chris serves as a juror for the Cuyahoga County
Innovation Fund program and sits on the Corporate Advisory Board of Case
Western Reserve University's TiME program. An Eagle Scout, Chris escapes
whenever possible by retreating into the wilderness. He is also the father
of two young children, ages 9 and 3.
